My name is Luz Valencia — I’m a painter, arts educator, and co-founder of 1010BCN, a Barcelona-based interdisciplinary collective investigating the intersection of art, technology, and ecology. My practice is deeply rooted in questions of identity, memory, and our relationship with the natural world, which I explore through painting, site-specific installations, and collaborative processes that weave together biodata and generative systems. Within 1010BCN, I develop work that integrates biological and technological systems into artistic frameworks, while coordinating projects that bridge art, science, and ecological awareness. Alongside my studio practice, I’m actively engaged in art education and community-based work — currently managing an arts program at Green City Lab Barcelona, where I use art as a tool for social connection and environmental consciousness. For me, art has always been most alive when it moves beyond the studio and into shared spaces, conversations, and communities.
With over 15 years of experience spanning painting, printmaking, installation, and performance, my work moves fluidly between the studio, the classroom, and the community. I bring advanced skills in oil, acrylic, and mixed media alongside deep expertise in workshop design, art education, and facilitation for diverse audiences across the UK and Spain — from family-oriented sessions and nature-inspired workshops at Green City Lab to the Indigenous Makeup Workshop with Survival International and painting workshops for Dia de les Arts el Clot. My background includes art handling, exhibition coordination, and visitor engagement at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Science Museum, and the Museum of Science & Industry. Whether working with children, families, or collaborative collectives, I believe art is essential to human development and strive to create accessible, participatory spaces that nurture critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and ecological awareness.
